MCA-Nepal has begun the upgrading of the 40-kilometer Dhan Khola–Lamahi road section of the East–West Highway from Wednesday.

For the first time in Nepal, advanced construction technologies—Full Depth Reclamation (FDR) and Superpave asphalt—are being used for the upgrading and maintenance of this road.
According to MCA-Nepal, these methods will result in stronger and more durable roads. “By reusing existing asphalt materials and reducing environmental impact, this method will help make investments in road maintenance more reliable and cost-effective in the long term,” MCA-Nepal said in a statement. “The project will widen the road to 12 meters by constructing a seven-meter-wide carriageway and 2.5-meter-wide shoulders on both sides.”
Addressing the event, Lumbini Province Chief Minister Chet Narayan Acharya praised the use of modern technologies like FDR and Superpave, which ensure better quality and durability of roads. “The upgrading of this road section will not only make travel safer and more reliable but also create new opportunities for local businesses, farmers, and entrepreneurs,” he said.
Similarly, the Chargé d’Affaires of the United States to Nepal, Scott Urbom, stated that the MCC Nepal Compact represents an investment in high-quality infrastructure that reduces transportation costs, improves safety, and connects communities to markets and opportunities.
“This project reflects our confidence in Nepal’s future and our shared commitment to sustainable economic growth.”
Sushil Babu Dhakal, Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, expressed confidence that the project will be completed on time.
Sanjay Poudyal, National Deputy Resident Director of MCC, said the project reflects MCC’s commitment to supporting Nepal in building strong and cost-effective infrastructure using modern technologies.
Speaking at the event, MCA-Nepal Executive Director Khadga Bahadur Bista said the organization is committed to completing the project efficiently, transparently, and with the highest quality standards.
